The story behind the new single:

In 2017 I lost my mother. It was an event that changed my life from that point forward. Those who knew me at the time, knew me as being somewhat of a free spirit (to put it lightly). However, when I lost her, I encountered a type of depression and sadness that affected me every day for the next two and a half years.

Being ill-equipped and never having been to therapy before for this kind of loss, I spiraled. Lots of drinking. Lots of bad decisions. My physical health came second to drowning out feelings I really needed to address and process. As a result, personal relationships became hard to maintain in a healthy way outside of drinking. My creativity was all but gone. I wrote lyrics for the band I was in at the time, but aside from that I had no urge to make music or be creative. Quite the opposite actually. My path was destructive and self-destructive at the time. I’m not proud of who I was during this time, but almost a decade later, reflection provides healing. That healing started when I met my wife.
The self destruction screeched to a halt and her and I learned how to heal from things together.

“Letting The Daylight In” the second track off the forthcoming EP simply named “Daylight” tackles this period of time where I learned to accept the joys of life. Where I learned that I could be loved and love another. Where I learned I could create again. All of these things saved my life. They made me a better person. I have the life I wanted now. The pain from the loss is always there. There are definitely still effects form the grief and the physical toll I enacted on myself throughout that time. It’s life. It’s still a process. This song and EP are a reflection on different steps of healing. The good ones and the painful ones. I am excited to share this with you next week.

I’m not perfect but my life definitely got better when I started letting the daylight in.
