How does someone find it in themselves to intentionally hurt you then ask you for anything (affection, compassion, money, food, favors)?

I don't know what their parents taught them but their parents must've skipped the lesson that there are consequences for every action and once someone's boundaries are violated, they don't owe you anything but acknowledgement that you it was mistake bringing you into their life and you're an unsafe person.

You can't possibly think you can get anything sweet from being sour, you are not a Sour Patch Kid.
