Firework Safety Tips for Homeowners
Fireworks can be fun, but safety matters. Here are a few quick tips to help keep your home, family, and neighbors safe:

✅ 1) Follow local laws & only use approved fireworks
Check your city/county rules before you buy or light anything. When in doubt, choose legal, consumer-approved options.

✅ 2) Keep fireworks away from homes, dry grass, and trees
Set up a safe viewing/fire area with plenty of distance from:

houses and garages
fences and decks
dry weeds/grass
vehicles and boats

✅ 3) Have water/911-ready plans
Keep a bucket of water, a hose, and/or an extinguisher nearby. Know how to call for help quickly if something goes wrong.

✅ 4) Never let kids handle fireworks
Adults only. Even “safe” fireworks can cause burns or fires. Keep kids and pets at a safe distance.

✅ 5) Use one at a time and don’t relight “duds”
If a firework doesn’t go off right away, don’t approach. Wait, soak it in water, and dispose of it properly per the directions.

✅ 6) Wear eye protection and keep a clear area
Glasses can help protect against sparks and debris. Give everyone plenty of space—no leaning in for a “closer look.”

✅ 7) Light fireworks outdoors only—and never near building materials
Avoid lighting on driveways near dry leaves, under eaves, or near anything flammable.

✅ 8) Store fireworks safely before use
Keep them in a cool, dry place and out of reach of children until you’re ready to use them.
