Menopause doesn't mean it's time to go easy at the gym.
I hear this a lot from women in my gym: "I'm going through menopause, should I be doing less?" It's a fair question - your body's changing, energy's different, and everyone's telling you to listen to it.
But here's what actually happens during menopause: estrogen drops, and estrogen was quietly protecting your bone density and muscle mass this whole time. When it drops, bone loss speeds up. Muscle gets harder to hold onto. The women who do the worst through this transition are usually the ones who pulled back on strength training right when they needed it most.
Lifting weights - real, challenging weights - is one of the best tools we have to slow that down. Not light dumbbells for the sake of "staying active." Actual strength training: squats, deadlifts, presses, carrying heavy things.
This is exactly why we coach the way we do at CrossFit Magnitude. CrossFit gets a reputation for being extreme, but at its core it's just this: functional strength training, scaled to you, coached properly. For a woman in her 40s or 50s, that might be the single best thing she can do for how she feels at 70.
You're not too old to start. You're not too fragile to lift heavy. You just need the right coaching behind you.
If you've got questions about training through this stage of life, drop them below or send me a message - happy to talk it through.
A few months of grinding through double-under attempts, and last night Kristen started weaving them in - a couple of singles, then a double. A few more singles, then another double.
That's exactly how this skill gets built. Nobody goes from zero to unbroken overnight - you just start closing the gap between attempts.
This is the whole point of coaching: showing up for the boring reps until they're not boring anymore, they're just yours.

Nobody escapes tired.
Work is tiring. Kids are tiring. Life is tiring.
And yes - the gym is tiring too.
But there's a difference between the tired that leaves you feeling broken down… and the tired that leaves you feeling like you did something.
One builds you up over time. One doesn't.
You're going to be tired either way. So choose the tired that makes you stronger.
