Lapis lazuli is a metamorphic , semi-precious stone which has been sought after and treasures since antiquity…from the Egyptians , the Romans , and to the Incas . In the Middle Ages it was ground up and used to make the ultramarine color paint we see in many famous works of art , including the Sistine chapel .
