Tropical storms can be destructive and dangerous due to flooding, heavy winds, storm surges and rip currents.

Be prepared as Tropical Storm Henri heads toward your area:

• Check often for severe weather warnings and important news updates.

• If your area is prone to flooding, move furniture to safety and electronic devices off the floor, particularly in basements and first-floor levels.

• Avoid parking near overhanging tree branches and move your car or motorcycle to a garage or higher ground if your area is prone to flooding.

• If you can't avoid driving, slow down, keep a distance from other vehicles, and watch for blowing or fallen debris.

• Secure outdoor items, including patio furniture, trampolines, potted plants and bikes. If possible, bring indoors.

• If your home is serviced by well water, fill some buckets and bathtubs with water to use until your water pump is powered by electricity again.

• Stock up on emergency supplies including water, non-perishable food, blankets, a first-aid kit, medication, a cell phone with charger and a flashlight with extra batteries.
