ποΈ PASSAIC CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT
π
June 4, 2026
π 7:00 PM
If you don't have time to read a 3-page agenda, here's what matters most:
https://www.cityofpassaic.com/DocumentCenter/View/12660/Public-Notice---City-Council-Meeting-ThursdayJune-4-2026-PDF
π€ Public Comment (This is your opportunity to be heard.)
Residents will have an opportunity to address the City Council during the "Hearing of Citizens" portion of the meeting. This is your chance to speak directly to city leadership about issues affecting Passaic.
π° 2026 City Budget Adoption
One of the biggest items on tonight's agenda is the public hearing and adoption of the City's 2026 Municipal Budget. This determines how taxpayer dollars will be spent on city services, public safety, infrastructure, recreation, and other priorities throughout the year.
Ordinances Up for Final Vote
1οΈβ£ Budget Cap Bank Ordinance
The Council will vote on an ordinance that would allow the City to exceed certain budget appropriation limits and establish a "Cap Bank" under state law. This is a technical budget tool used by municipalities when planning future spending.
2οΈβ£ Handicap Parking Changes
The Council will also consider amendments related to restricted parking spaces for disabled residents tied to specific New Jersey license plate numbers.
π Community Events Seeking Approval
Several community events are seeking city approval:
β
Mayor Hector Lora Youth Council 5K Event at Third Ward Park.
β
Nefesh Inspired Jog/Walkathon at Third Ward Park.
β
Civil Wedding Ceremony request at Third Ward Park.
πΆ New Entertainment License Request
Fiesta Night Club has submitted an application for a new entertainment license for 2026.
β»οΈ Recycling Contract Extension
Council will consider extending the City's current contract for the collection of recyclable materials.
π΅ UEZ Funding Request
The Passaic Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) will seek authorization to apply for up to $344,486 in administrative funding from the State UEZ Authority for the upcoming fiscal year.
This is especially important because UEZ funding can support economic development initiatives, business programs, and administrative operations within Passaic.
π©Ί Health Grant Funding
The City will consider accepting Ryan White Part A and Minority AIDS Initiative grant funding.
β½ FIFA Watch Party
The City is seeking approval to host a FIFA Watch Party block event that would allow alcohol consumption on public property.
π Rent Leveling Appeals
Two separate appeals of Rent Leveling Board decisions are being presented to the Council, with requests to schedule hearings.
π Executive Session
The Council is expected to enter a closed executive session to discuss:
Pending litigation
Contract negotiations
Personnel matters
These discussions are not open to the public.
Why This Matters
The budget, UEZ funding, economic development decisions, public events, housing issues, and city contracts all impact residents directly.
Whether you agree with city leadership or not, staying informed is the first step toward meaningful civic engagement.
Government works best when residents pay attention.
