Bernstein & lang is TOMORROW! We can’t wait to share this music with you!

Bernstein’s work is bold, jazzy, and profoundly American, moving from the Hebrew scripture of Chichester Psalms to the urgent, street-corner drama of West Side Story to the hymn-like communal finale of Candide. lang’s is something else entirely: spare, meditative, almost liturgical in its stillness… Juxtaposed against one another, Bernstein and lang illuminate a full spectrum of the human experience in one remarkable evening.

Bernstein & lang is one week away! Did you know you can livestream the event from home?!

Artistic Director Lesley Leighton says, on Bernstein & lang, “I was interested in offering a concert of music by Jewish composers, which of course led me to Leonard Bernstein and Chichester Psalms… a classic work known for its blend of jazz influences, theatrical panache,
and soaring melodies... The challenge was what to pair it with... I landed on a piece by david lang. While david by his own admission is not religious in a traditional or orthodox way, he feels that his experiences as a Jew who comes from a Jewish immigrant family have profoundly
influenced his worldview and artistic output.”

In June 2023, the Angeles Chorale Board of Directors established a stole tradition to recognize our signers– the heart and soul of our organization. Each stole is embroidered with the Angeles Chorale logo and the singer’s name. They represent, by color, years of service. The board looks forward to awarding the first Gold Stole to a member reaching 50 years of service.

In expressing both heartfelt gratitude and admiration, we invite you to join us in honoring them in two weeks at our upcoming concert, Bernstein & lang, at the Alex Theatre!

In three weeks, see Angeles Chorale’s Bernstein & lang, a celebration of two iconic voices of choral music!

Artistic Director Lesley Leighton says, “For me, the little match girl passion remains a work of profound understanding in its ability to tell what is primarily a dark children’s story through music so stark in contrasts… it can burn a hole right through your heart.”
