Say someone wants to sell their house to a friend or relative but they don't know what their house is worth. I often get calls from people to determine the Market Value of their house to help them decide what to sell their house for. They may want to sell it to a friend or relative for less but at least they have a better idea what the house is worth.

Even if I was not appraising, I have to admit that I love my office. I'm in a great building surrounded by other self-employed friends that are great. I have a Real Estate Broker and Property Manager in my office and an elementary school teacher. A great environment to work in. I never lack for something to do here.

I began appraising in 1991 wondering how I would do starting a new career. There were 13 appraisers in the office I was in as a so-called "split-fee" appraiser. I appraised primarily commercial/industrial properties. After the mid 1990's I switched to residential appraising. It is hard to believe that in 2016 I'm still appraising.
