As we acknowledge , we honor the people who have always pushed this country closer to its promise of freedom and opportunity for all; working people.

For 250 years, working people have built this country and fought to expand its vision of freedom, equality, and justice.

Not CEOs. Not billionaires. Working people.

From Nurses caring for the sick in hospitals across the country, to farmworkers picking the fruits and vegetables that feed the country, workers are and have been the backbone of America since its founding. Today, we honor that legacy and continue the work of building a freer, more just country for all.

That’s our history. And now, more than ever, it’s our responsibility.

Meet Monique Hernandez, a Tele Nurse at Riverside Community Hospital, and a nursing teacher at Riverside City College.
“Pride to me is being able to be authentically you, being able to just be yourself freely,” Monique said. “Being a le***an, being a nurse, being an educator, you always want to create a safer space for those that come after you. That’s always our goal. Every patient, all of my students, every co-worker of mine, should know that they can walk into a room and be treated, and feel safe, for who they are. I’ll stop at nothing to do that.”

On Tuesday, dozens of Registered Nurses, represented by SEIU 121RN, picketed outside Kindred Hospital Ontario.
Nurses report that they lack equipment every hospital needs to safely care for patients, like monitors to track vital signs, and even thermometers. Nurses have raised concerns and proposed solutions to the hospital’s many issues during ongoing contract negotiations, but nothing has improved, and management continues to fail to adequately respond to their proposals. Nurses went on picket on Tuesday to demand hospital management listen to them and their proposals.
