Several states reported sharp declines in auto theft with Washington leading the way with a 39% decline. Texas did not even make the top 10.

3. Chicago, Naperville, Elgin IL-IN - 24,299 thefts reported in 2025

4. Houston, Pasadena, The Woodlands TX - 23,659 thefts reported in 2025

5. San Francisco, Oakland, Fremont CA - 22,197 thefts reported in 2025.

California & Texas topped all states with the most vehicle thefts by a wide margin.

1. Hyundai Elantra - 21,732 thefts
2. Honda Accord - 17,797 thefts
3. Hyundai Sonata - 17,687 thefts
4. Chevy Silverado 1500 - 16,764 thefts
5. Honda Civic - 12,725 thefts
6. KIA Optima - 11,521 thefts
7. Ford F150 - 10,102 thefts

Thefts of Hyundai & KIA have continued to decline for the 3rd consecutive year.
