The most common is the Homeowner Exemption, which saves a Cook County property owner an average of approximately $950 dollars each year. Read about each exemption below.

The Cook County Treasurer has extended the first-installment property tax payment deadline to April 1 due to delays in mailing tax bills. This change follows significant delays in the issuance of the 2025 second-installment bills.

Cook County Board of Review Open for Appeals 12/04/2025

The Cook County Board of Review is reopening 24 townships for 2025 property tax appeals starting December 3 through December 12. Now is the time to file if you haven’t already.

Townships reopening include: Berwyn, Evanston, Norwood Park, River Forest, Riverside, Rogers Park, Cicero, Oak Park, Palos, and many more.

Cook County Board of Review Open for Appeals Effective December 3, the Cook County Board of Review reopened previously closed townships for assessment appeals.
