One of several Revolutionary War soldiers who are buried in Henry County is Elias Bowden. He is buried in Cottage Grove Cemetery.
Elias Bowden was the son of John and Margaret "Peggy" Bowden. He served in the Revolutionary War from Isle of Wight Co., VA. and afterwards moved to Henry County.
Revolutionary War soldiers received land grants from the Continental Congress as a reward for their service, which is why many soldiers ended up in Tennessee.
He was born in 1763 and died in 1843 at the age of 79. He married Celia Bowden and they had five children.
