Riley’s pick for this week’s Vinyl Thursday is The Black Keys’, “Brothers”

“Brothers” is an album that really opened up my susceptibility to simplicity. So much of this record is recorded in simple terms. It’s rough, it’s creamy, and it’s almost always in-depth to the listener. This album to me is truly greater than the sum of its parts. It is a quintessential listen for any modern bluesman, and I can’t recommend it enough. It just makes you want to pick up anything with p90s in it, and plug it into a cranked VOX. Additionally, after seeing them live with significant coverage of this record I can deduce that the material of this record is the type that holds up inside the studio recording, and beyond the stage. I love it. If you don’t love the blues in The Black Keys music after hearing the words,

“Mashed potatoes in cellophane
I see my life goin' down the drain
Hold me baby and don't let go
Pretty girls help to soften the blow”

Then the blues isn’t for you.

Becky’s pick this Vinyl Thursday
Lana Del Rey’s - “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd”

2023 is the year of “Eras” I believe for many artists. With her 9th studio album, just released on March 24th, Lana Del Rey unveils many layers and history from her previous work. Her album “Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” Tracks 16 songs, and 5 feature artists; with popular song “Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd”, “A&W”, “Candy Necklace (Ft. Jon Batiste)” and “Peppers (ft. Tommy Genesis)”

Lana had influenced and sparked the fires for new and upcoming artists across the world. That influence Landed her the 2023 Billboard Women in Music Visionary Award. This album gives her fans and new listeners a taste of everything from her past work. Lana Del Rey has crafted her album to bleed her heartfelt honesty and emotions through her poetic lyrics.

I genuinely enjoyed this album for its well thought out production and Lana’s spoonful style of singing. I’m looking forward to the future projects Lana Del Rey is conjuring up and HOPEFULLY… another tour! But for now, we can sit back and escape from reality through good music and “Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd”. I wonder what Era she’ll bring us to next?
