This week Senator Tilton presented the Cameron family with a Citation in recognition of Chief Cameron’s service to the state of Alaska. We also celebrated the promotion and pinning of Bryan Cable to the rank of Lieutenant! Thank you all for your service. We are both humbled and proud.♥️🚒

We are so excited our old hose is being put to good use! LT Johnston and FF Love loaded up the trailer and hauled the hose down to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where the hose will be used to make hammocks for the black bears and protection for the feeders! 🐻🫎🚒Thank you Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center!♥️

Our hearts go out to the family of Chief Boatright and to our PPD family. We lost a good one. He served our community well and he will be greatly missed.

Last week our family lost a “Boss”. Chief Boatright (Ret.) passed away. He was 82 years young.

George “Russ” Boatright started his career in law enforcement in 1967 with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. He left and traveled to Alaska and was hired by the Anchorage Police Department in January of 1969, retiring in June of 1997 after 28 years of service. In October of 1999, he was asked to help the Palmer Police Department after the death of Officer Rowland. Over the following two years, his relationship evolved into accepting the position of Chief of Police. He retired again, in May of 2012, with almost 43 years’ total law enforcement experience.

It is hard to put into words how much he meant to us here at the department. He came to us in a time of need and became the person we looked to the most.

We grieve with his wife, Susie, and all the Boatright family. Please take some solace in knowing your husband, father, grandfather, and friend was “one of the best ones” and we will miss him dearly.

We love celebrating the 4th of July just as much as you do! So, while you’re busy making memories, help us avoid making a house call.

🇺🇸 This Independence Day:
🎇 Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
🧯 Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
👀 Never leave fireworks or grills unattended.
🚸 Keep kids and pets at a safe distance.
🚫 If a firework doesn’t go off, don’t try to relight it—it already had its chance!

Remember: The only thing that should be lit this 4th of July is the barbecue… and maybe your uncle’s patriotic shirt. 😄

Have a fun, safe, and happy Independence Day! If you need us, we’ll be here—but we’d much rather see your fireworks on Facebook than your address on our dispatch screen.

🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from your Palmer Fire & Rescue! 🚒
