Caravan to Alaska

Our group arrived in the 907 after a beary 🐻 good time together.

People joined up from all over the country this year; Oregon, California, Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania and South Carolina 🚐 🚐 🚐

We met in Washington State and crossed the border at Sumas.

Traversed British Columbia over a leisurely 5 days then spent about 3 days coming across Yukon Territory.

Super fun group of people; strangers when we met, friends within a day, and discovered, later on down the road, that we were all connected somehow before the trip! 🤯

I’ll put together some memories of the road, but for now, please enjoy a little bear p**n on us 😍

Having spent years living in Alaska and now going up every summer, I’d never had the opportunity to see 🐻 on 🐻 action before! These guys put on a show 💃🏻 🪩

Sunday

Was sweet.

While on the road, it’s nice to luck into such a treat. We’d been to before but this was the first time we caught some live music.

In the form of a songbird! The ciders were delicious as were the tunes from

Doubly fun when the show begins at 5 and the LPM ratio is low (listeners to musicians 😍). It felt like an intimate house concert with libations straight from the farm.

🫎 !!

Waiting for this year’s caravan crew to gather at the state park, as is tradition for the journey north.

Mid May is a great time to set out for Alaska for many reasons.

Winter is falling away. Spring has begun to pop. Wildlife and their babies are on the move.

Campgrounds are opening. Our Canadian hosts are ready for us.

We’re ahead of the “summer traffic”, even though that means the difference between seeing one car in places versus none.

It’s a 40-hour drive from the WA state line to south central Alaska. We divide that into a 10-day trip which seems like a good balance between moving, breaking, and overnighting. With the sun about to shine all day long, there’s plenty of time for morning coffee, photo ops on the way, and roadside breaks for stretching people and pup legs.

British Columbia and Yukon Territory has to be seen to be believed. Although there are days without connectivity, I’ll post as much as possible of my favorite road trip ever. Come along with us.
