Charm Patterns by Gertie

We all know we should be making a muslin for every single new pattern… right? Right. If you’re feeling intimidated by the prospect, here are my best practices to help make the process a breeze!

-Use fabric with a similar drape to your fashion fabric (even if it’s not muslin!) 
-Turn in edge and hem seam allowances so you can see what the finished garment will look like 
-Safety pin your straps (so you can adjust length and placement if necessary!)
-Install your zipper according to instructions (using a hasty approach with different methods or seam allowances is the most common mistake I see!)
-Don’t rush your sewing

With these tips, you’ll be on your way to a perfectly polished final garment in no time! Don’t get discouraged if you have to make a couple muslins to really dial in the fit, the end result will be worth it!



The most glamorous tea party you’ve ever seen? It’s a distinct possibility! We hosted a tea party in the studio to celebrate the release of “Gertie Sews Glam Knits” and everyone was dressed to the nines!
