Most people know Mountain Dew as a sugary, neon green soda loved by gamers and adrenaline junkies, but its origins are far more surprising. Back in the 1940s, two brothers from Tennessee created it as a whiskey mixer. At the time, “mountain dew” was actually a slang term for homemade moonshine, so the name fit perfectly. They wanted something citrusy and sharp to cut through strong whiskey, and their invention became a hit.

Over the decades, Mountain Dew transformed into the bold soft drink brand we know today, loaded with caffeine and loved worldwide. Yet its connection to whiskey remains a fascinating part of its history.
