Each fall, thousands of monarchs travel hundreds of miles to spend the winter along the California coast, transforming our state parks into vibrant, living sanctuaries. These parks provide critical overwintering habitat that helps sustain the monarch population for generations to come.

Where to spot monarchs this season:

πŸ¦‹ Natural Bridges State Beach - California’s only State Monarch Preserve
πŸ¦‹ Lighthouse Field State Beach - home to habitat restoration projects supported by California State Parks Foundation
πŸ¦‹ Pismo State Beach - one of the largest monarch overwintering groves in the state

Western monarchs once numbered in the millions, but their population has declined sharply due to habitat loss, development, and pesticide use.

This fall and beyond, we will continue to support monarch butterflies and other iconic wildlife species in California. Learn more about monarchs here:

My thoughts exactly ... let the critters fly and roam and soar and dance, and crawl, and flutter ... πŸ¦‹πŸΎπŸ•ŠπŸ¦•πŸ¦¨πŸ‹πŸ›
