Being a creator is HARD! ⚠️ It’s one thing having a design job and having the built in drive to show up and perform at work every day 🙋🏼‍♀️ but it’s a whole other game making myself show up for my own creative pursuits. 🙇🏼‍♀️ My biggest struggles stem from: 1️⃣ Making enough time. I intentionally used the word “making” and not “having,” because some of the time, I’m not willing to make time to create after a long day of work, which leads me to... 2️⃣ Self doubt. It’s what makes me feel like I cannot commit enough time to ensure my work and my page is “successful.” I’m always dealing with doubt that each piece I make won’t be as good as the last, and that I’ll fail, which leads me to 3️⃣ Fear of failure. The build up to actually commit to artistic pursuits (in the form of this page) took years of creative exploration, experience, and confidence building. ⏳ I’m scared I won’t be able to fulfill my creative dreams, and that fear sometimes stops me in my tracks, which makes me horrified that it’ll be a self fulfilling prophecy. 🌞 In reality, there is a difference between a hobbyist and a professional, and that’s time, dedication, drive, and growth. I do believe that a person can achieve anything they set their mind to, and sometimes the only thing standing in their way is themselves.💡 I don’t think these thoughts of doubt will ever go away, but that’s an important part of the creative journey. 🛫 It will only make my work and pursuits that much more challenging and rewarding as I continue to pour time into the bettering of my art and myself. There’s no destination on this journey, only continuous learning and growth. 🌺

I figured it was about time to create a piece within the “Recess” theme! 🧃 I caught a fleeting glimpse of this play set while on the road a while back and was struck by the simplicity of the layered, interlocking organic forms. Soft silhouette, smooth surfaces, stable structure. The color blocking also lent itself so well to this familiar color palette, I just couldn’t not do it. Sometimes things just click!💡
