October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month. So here is a quick primer on the subject:

An "ultrasound" is the same as a "sonogram" - the two words are interchangeable.

An "Ultrasound Technologist" is the same as a "Sonographer" - the two are interchangeable. No, we do not take notes during court cases- that would be a "Stenographer" 😄

Ultrasound is best suited to image soft tissues, blood vessels, and the heart. It is not well-suited to image bone (we'll let the X-ray Techs do that! 😂) It is not only for babies, although we get asked if it's a girl or a boy waaaaaayyyyyy too often. 💙❤️

Some exams require preparations such as fasting or filling your bladder, and sometimes we have you take really deep breaths and hold your breath. These preparations ensure that we get the best images possible. 🤓
