Today, October 7th, is the 45th anniversary of the death of Senior Officer John Adair. On October 7th, 1980, Senior Officer John Adair made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the residents of the City of Oxnard. While working patrol, Senior Officer Adair was dispatched to a domestic violence call for service. When he arrived, Senior Officer Adair approached the residence and contacted the female half of the domestic outside of the front door. While speaking with her, the woman’s husband emerged from the residence with a handgun and immediately began firing, striking Senior Officer Adair. Although mortally wounded, Senior Officer Adair and his partner, Officer Johnny Gomez, both returned fire, killing the suspect.
