Introducing the newest addition to the portfolio, Health-e Pediatrics! The device they are developing will utilize an adhesive on the tip of a pen-lit long thin handle that will adhere to foreign bodies upon contact, particularly round foreign bodies, and extract the foreign body upon removal of the tool.

🕷️ Getting the grill out to BBQ?! Be a little careful. 🕷️
Can you spot the danger? 👀 It's not that little spider. Not the brown one, but look at that one lurking there. It's black and has a red belly. 🚨 Black widow alert! 🚨
👧🏽What happens if you get bitten? 🤔 These spiders love dark places, like under our grill or even beneath a plastic pool in the backyard. 🏡 But they can be very dangerous. If they bite you, sometimes it's just a local reaction and pain, but the venom they inject can actually affect the nervous system.
🚫🕷️Sometimes, you might need an anti-venom. 😱 So if you know that your child was bitten and you've caught this spider, please bring it to the ER. 🏥 If they develop any systemic symptoms like muscle aches, body aches, nausea, vomiting, or lots of pain, redness, and swelling at the site, then you need to seek medical help.
💡In the meantime, here are some quick tips:
🌡 Apply ice on the bite to reduce swelling.
💊 Give them some Tylenol for pain.
🦵 Elevate the affected extremity to prevent swelling.
🕷️Black widows are prevalent in California, so be on the lookout, parents! Stay safe, and keep your little ones protected.

🌞☀️ Late summer heatwave: Keep Your Kids Safe! ☀️🌞
💡We've got an important Health-e Tip to share today that could save lives. As the temperature rises, it's crucial to be aware of the dangers of leaving your precious ones in a hot car. 🚗🔥 Let's talk about the greenhouse effect and how it relates to this!
🔥🚙The Greenhouse Effect and Cars: Did you know that cars act like small greenhouses? When sunlight enters the car, it gets absorbed and then radiates back out as heat. However, the windows trap this heat inside, causing the temperature to skyrocket even on mild days. This can be extremely dangerous, especially for our little ones.
💡 Quick Tips to Ensure Safety:
✅ Look Before You Lock: Make it a habit to double-check your car before locking it. Open the back door and look inside, even if you're sure the car is empty.
✅ Create Reminders: Put an essential item like your phone, wallet, or purse in the back seat next to your child. This will remind you to check the back before leaving the car.
✅ Communicate: If you have others dropping off your child, make sure everyone is on the same page about safety protocols.

🚨 Did you know that testicular torsion is a serious medical emergency that can happen to boys (and men) of all ages?
👦🏻⚠️ This condition occurs when the spermatic cord (little cord from where the testicle hangs) twists, cutting off blood flow to the testicle.
⛔️ Time is of the essence – rapid diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent potential complications.
🏥💡 Parents, stay vigilant and make sure your young ones know the signs: sudden and severe pain and/or swelling to the testicle possibly associated with nausea. This is especially important with preteens and teenagers who may be too embarrassed to say something
🤢💔 It's always better to be safe than sorry! So seek medical help immediately.

👶💨 BREATHE EASY, BUT BEWARE! 👶💨
😳 Nasal sprays can be dangerous to kids! Afrin (oxymetazoline) is a decongestant that can be very effective at relieving nasal congestion, but it's not safe for kids.
⚕️ The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) all recommend that Afrin not be used in children under 6 years old. In fact, even adults should not routinely use oxymetazoline.
There are a few reasons why Afrin is not safe for kids (and adults).
✅ First, it can cause rebound congestion. Our little ones have tiny nasal passages, and Afrin's active ingredient can cause REBOUND CONGESTION, which means that the nasal congestion WORSENS after you stop using Afrin. It becomes a vicious cycle! 😱
✅ Second, Afrin can have serious side effects, such as seizures, heart problems, and even death. It can significantly increase blood pressure.
💡If your child is congested, there are other, safer ways to relieve their symptoms. You can try saline nasal spray, a humidifier, or a warm compress on the nose. If your child's congestion is severe, talk to your doctor.
💡 Keep in mind that nasal congestion in young children is often caused by viral infections (like the common cold). These usually clear up on their own within a week or so. Patience is key, but always consult a healthcare professional for peace of mind! 🩺💕
