Central Florida, be ready for as it is expected to be a major by the time it reaches the Gulf Coast of Florida. Landfall is expected sometime Wednesday afternoon/Thursday morning. Dangerous flooding conditions, storm surge, and widespread damaging winds are possible. Tornadoes may also occur. Remember storm impacts can be felt a significant distance from the center of the storm.

Be prepared for power outages and business/school closures. Have a communication plan/tell your family where you will be. Update them about your situation. If you are in an evacuation order, heed evacuation orders and leave as soon as possible. Be sure to take your important documents and medications with you.

Expect travel delays, airport closures, and long lines at stores.

Keep in mind Florida already has an ongoing insurance crisis. It is important to heed the advanced warnings of scientists regarding climate impacts and severe weather. Always prepare for the worst conditions.

Remove all unsafe outdoor objects, which can become dangerous projectiles with high winds.

Although the forecast can change, our models expect Milton to reach Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane. We are watching multiple models to determine the next forecast track/intensity. Upper-level shear and dry air entrainment can impact the storm intensity. The influence of an upper-level trough can impact the track of the storm. Because of these factors, landfall can be anywhere from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. This forecast can change if the speed of the storm changes significantly between models.
