It is with profound sadness that I share that Andrew has lost his father, and 650north has lost its greatest advocate, Jerry Vollmer.

Since the very beginning of the band over 22 years ago, Jerry was a constant, unwavering well of support and encouragement. The amount of hours he dedicated to helping us book gigs, promoting us in every way he could, driving us to shows, making late night meals for us in his kitchen, is incalculable. There would be no 650north as we know it without him.

Nothing was a dream with Jerry. If we decided to do something as a band, he would stop at nothing to help us make it happen. I’ll never forget our late night, beer drinking/band planning chats, Jerry glowing with pride and possibility about what was in store for us as a band and as young men.

He was with us through the dizzying highs and heart-breaking lows of our halcyon days—whether we were halfway across the world, opening for a legendary rock band, or at some terrible bar, playing to only him and the bartenders. And as we decided to have families and let the band take a more backseat role in our lives, he would still pop in to our shows, still glowing with pride, but perhaps more so at the men/husbands/dads we had become, in no small part thanks to him.

As I write this, maybe only now do I truly realize how lucky we were to have him in our lives. Jerry’s confidence in us gave us the confidence that we initially lacked to go on stage and share our passion and creativity with the world. Not everyone is lucky enough to have someone like that in their life, and for that we are forever grateful.

Perhaps to put this all more simply: Jerry—thank you for everything. We will do our best to continue your legacy of kindness and mentorship, and try to leave the world a better and more beautiful place than we found it—just like you did.

Please keep Jerry’s family, friends, and our entire hometown community in your thoughts as we navigate this loss.
