“Drucaurus!!!” one the mencan cries out loud, climbing on the tree in front of us.
Drucaurus? What’s a drucaurus? I ask myself, exhausted.
“Oh no! This just keeps getting better,” I hear the faun complain. “Come on Fieryhair, hurry up!!”
I stretch to look below just enough to see come out of the darkness the old man with the big nose, the one I saw earlier in the mouth of the statue. His beard is wrapped around his neck like a scarf, and he runs off laughing; with a hand holding the hat on his head and with the other lifts the cloak from the ground.
“What’s going on?”
“Keep cutting!”
The old man runs toward the group of mencans, who ignore him. Their eyes stare at the trees that are shaking. Leaves start to rain, and broken branches begin flying around. A few trunks crash down and from the dark shadow in the woods comes the huge face of a giant, whose skin is wrinkled like bark. His eyes reflect the fire, and his hair seems to be made of many small twigs full of leaves.
Shouts. Growls. The giant throws himself on the mencans, smashing, and squeezing them with his hand that seems tangled with roots. The witches quickly defend themselves, climbing on his broad back full of moss and trying to take down the enemy with bites and scratches. The battle is brutal.

It all began with inspiration. As an Italian, I yearned to infuse my cultural heritage into the story. The captivating beauty, rich history, and artistic treasures of Tuscany mesmerized me, making it the perfect backdrop for our protagonists, Leonardo and Maya. The picturesque landscapes and enchanting atmosphere of the Chianti region provided a captivating canvas for the beginning of this adventure.

Their journey transcends from the real world to a magical dimension, symbolizing the inner quest our heroes undertake. Beyond the physical challenges, Leonardo and Maya must confront their fears, doubts, and discover their true selves. Their trek through the world of Midendhil becomes an initiatory journey, a path of growth, learning, and maturity.
To add depth and intrigue to the tale, I played with the narrative structure. Opting for a circular narrative, where the beginning merges with the end but with a fresh perspective, embodies the cycles of life and how experiences profoundly shape us. Just as in real life, each adventure enriches and molds us, and I aimed to reflect this aspect in the characters' evolution.
