The IRS has announced that the last day to electronically file individual 1040 tax returns is Saturday, November 30, 2024. All returns must be transmitted prior to 11:59 PM EDT in order to be processed. The temporary shutdown of the Modernized e-File (MeF) system will allow the IRS to prepare the system for the upcoming 2025 filing season.
This deadline does not affect electronically filing business returns.

The IRS hasn't yet announced the last day for business e-file.

Breaking News:

The IRS said it will start accepting and processing tax returns on Monday, January 29.

However, it added that people can start working on their taxes prior to that, either with a tax professional or software company.
