CALL TO ACTION FOR MY COMMUNITY!
I never do this, but I have a point to prove, and social media is where I have access to your attention. The point I have to prove is that we (the Black and Brown community) do care about our girls and women!
❤️🖤💚💛
I invite 50 of my Facebook and social media family/friends to join me and choose this day to observe this holiday by investing $10 a month to help in the fight against modern-day slavery… human trafficking.

On JUNETEENTH, we observe Emancipation Day, or what we refer to as Freedom Day. Acknowledging a time in history where we remember and celebrate the ending of a horrific, painful tragedy in our US History for black and brown people. The announcement of ending the Civil War and slavery on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, TX, was just the beginning of centuries of undoing what had become the foundation of our country: slavery, systemic oppression, and racism.
Today, the fight against systemic issues continues. It just appears and feels different. Daily, I read the news of the mass number of black and brown girls who have gone missing. I read, hear, and witness the number of Black and brown women criminalized and targeted for their vulnerabilities simply because of their race, ethnicity, cultural identity, socioeconomic status, dreams, hopes, and aspirations. I see application after application seeking hope and healing from the life of modern-day slavery…trafficking. Yet I do not see the same response, attention, or call to action to these systemic issues and factors for my black and brown sisters as I do for our counterparts.
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery PERIOD! And still, black and brown girls and women are disproportionately affected and disproportionately underrepresented. Why, you ask? The systemic problems are still prevalent today.

Our very own Danielle Pierson (Executive Director) and Shay Bell (Director of Residential Programs) are fostering partnerships with organizations from across the country that have a similar mission to provide a safe place for survivors of trafficking! 🤝
REFLECT WITH US: How can we develop trust and collaboration in order to provide more survivor-centered, trauma-informed care? ✨
