TGIF! It's time for Lauren's Free Advice Friday...

You know you’ve bought one….an item that promises to make your life easier, but then actually complicates it by taking up storage, malfunctioning, requiring battery changes or app updates, or just being annoying.

In addition to the space-saving scarf hanger (pictured above, from an actual client, tag still in place), the space-saving multi-layer skirt and pant hanger ranks high on my list of “not worth it.” In seven years, I’ve had one client who kept hers and about 30 who owned but never used it. I am not a fan.

Before you fall for the next gimmick with a promise to make your life easier, be sure it’s not going to complicate things!

Want to share your regrets? I’ll start:

1. I once bought my husband an automatic tie-spinner. It was cumbersome, and of course needed its batteries replaced. Long gone.

2. Invested once in an avocado tool (sorry, Joanna, I know you love yours). Knife and spoon work fine for me.
