Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, also plays an important role in protecting the county’s open spaces. A portion of Measure M funding is dedicated to preserving and restoring land to help offset environmental impacts of Measure M-funded freeway projects. More than 1,300 acres have been acquired in Brea, Laguna Beach, Silverado Canyon, and Trabuco Canyon, and 13 restoration projects covering nearly 350 acres have been funded across the county.
