How Long Do Seeds Last?
If you've saved seeds, picked up seeds from the Seed Swap, or have seed packets from previous years, it's good to know how long seeds remain viable. The Virginia Tech Extension provides a useful handout for gardeners including length of viability. This can be impacted by where and how the seeds were saved but it provides a general rule of thumb.
Some of us have rescued ancient cigar boxes filled with seeds from attics and had thriving gardens from very old seeds, or the archaeologists from Hebrew University who grew 2,000-year-old seeds. e

The handout also includes which plants transplant easily and which are best to be sown directly in the garden. It is a very useful handout.
