We are often asked what is the right age to start puppy obedience?

Did you know that the prime socialization window for puppies is between 7-12wks old? Impressions made during that time frame are most likely to stick with the dog and carry into adulthood. During these weeks your puppy should meet 100 people (kids, the elderly, men, women, people in hats, people with canes, etc), be introduced to cats and dogs, and be exposed to things such as car rides and hardwood floors!

Is it possible for a dog to still learn new things after 12 weeks of age? Of course! With that said it is harder to get information to have a lasting impact on your dog after 12wks of age.

We encourage dogs as young as 8wks of age that have had their first set of vaccinations to sign up for puppy obedience classes! This handsome young man is Luke!

At just 5 months old, Luke is already the size of most full grown dogs and his strong will and stubbornness have been apparent since day 1. Luke has the best parents but was really giving them a run for their money with poor recall outdoors, incessant desire to chase the small dogs in the household (and chickens outside), inability to focus, and out of control behavior on the leash. While his owners love Luke very much, his unruly behavior was causing them so much stress and anxiety that they were beginning to question if they were the right home for him.

His family opted to enroll Luke in both private lessons and puppy classes. He is such a smart boy and absorbs everything he's taught. Luke's family has been more than attentive to his needs, promptly obtaining any necessary training tools and diligently practicing all they've been taught with consistency. Thanks to their dedication in just a months time Luke has transformed from terror to the ultimate goodest boy 💕 Luke's owners refer to us as miracle workers but all the training in the world means nothing without dedicated owners so we think they're the real miracle workers here!!

Yesterday we worked with Titan the Bullmastiff (I could barely contain myself with that adorable blockhead 😍). Titan is the best boy 98% of the time but struggles with fear aggression/ protective behavior when young men come to the house. This is a very common hurdle for the breed and we are excited to see the progress he makes!

While dogs are my specialty, I'm an advocate for all animals and almost always have a foster passing by waiting on their forever home. My current foster baby is Bowie! All Animals Matter grabbed him out of a snow bank a couple of weeks ago. Feel free to share to help me find him a home!!

Bowie is a primadonna that isn't afraid to voice his enjoyment or disdain for things. He's a lovebug that wants to be right on top of you all the time but if you move too fast you might scare him and make him hiss 🤦😂 Bowie is a bit of a chicken and drama queen sometimes but his antics are sure to keep you laughing!

Bowie is already neutered and will be fully vetted prior to adoption. He's probably too much of a chicken to be placed with little kids but he may do well with other animals, he has not yet been tested.
