Thank you to all who showed up at the Nebraska State Capitol to testify AGAINST LB 1134 & LB 1227. LB 1134, (https://lnkd.in/gEXxWNTQ) which proposes to roll back the state's residential (IRC), electrical (NEC), and energy (IECC) codes from the 2018 version back to the 2009 version (2008 NEC). Furthermore, it prohibits local communities (Nebraska is a "home rule" state) from updating their local codes until Jan. 1, 2031. LB 1227 (https://nebraskalegislature.gov/bills/view_bill.php?DocumentID=63656&docnum=LB1227&leg=109) would prevent local communities from adopting or enforcing local electrical or codes that are more stringent than those prescribed by the state and new energy codes must be shown to have a simple payback of less than 5 years. There was a 10:1 ratio of opponent to proponent testifiers for these bills. Special thanks to & Matthew Stoffel of , Jeffrey McCaslin of , Building Enclosure Council of Nebraska, Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, & several electrical contractors. We’ve defeated these bills for this year, but both sponsoring senators & the home builders associations vowed to bring the bills back next year. Never ceases to amaze me how much organization & work must be expelled to stop Nebraska from doing something really, really stupid.
