This week I attended the NeighborWorks America Training Institute in Chicago and it was INCREDIBLE!

I participated in both LIHTC and Real Estate Finance courses, which provided a deeper understanding of Tax Credit projects and enhanced my financial modeling skills.

Beyond technical skill development, I had the opportunity to connect with numerous affordable housing practitioners from across the US. It was compelling to learn about the diverse approaches we all take toward the shared mission of expanding access to quality housing.

Today, I had the chance to attend the Regional Housing Symposium hosted by and . Here are my main takeaways from the event:

⭐️ Wear a “Nebraska Needs Safe Affordable Housing” t-shirt, not only because it’s true but also because Ali Solis at S3 will love it.

⭐️ It’s crucial to clearly define what is attainable for different populations, as this can help create tailored housing solutions. This includes considerations of housing costs, as well as design and programmatic factors.

⭐️ Housing and economic development go hand in hand. Municipalities, developers, and communities should aim to integrate housing with jobs, transportation, and infrastructure as part of a cohesive strategy.

It’s always rewarding to attend events like these where thought leaders, advocates, and industry practitioners can connect, learn, and apply solutions that enhance the quality of the housing landscape.

This Veterans Day, I'm taking a moment to thank those who have served and sacrificed for our nation. I'm also personally honoring the memory of my Grandfathers, Great Uncles and Aunts who demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience while serving in the armed forces, despite not having their civil rights.

Yesterday, I attended the Omaha Inland Port Authority's community meeting to explore the Business Park and Innovation District's goals. As a stakeholder, I participated in interactive sessions, including participatory budgeting and design exercises. I'm thrilled about the potential transformations in our area and excited about the inclusion of affordable housing in the development plan.
