Did you know that ankle sprains, even old ones, can contribute to CURRENT knee, hip, and low back pain.
Ankle sprains often result in a lack of motion needed for walking. Dorsiflexion is the movement of bringing your toes up toward your head. We NEED this motion in order to propel ourselves forward when we take a step. This motion gets limited after an ankle sprain, which leads to you will not be able to extend through your hip to use your glute and hamstring muscles efficiently to generate power.
Over time this can often result in moderate hip weakness which, in turn, can contribute to hip bursitis, IT band syndrome, or low back pain.
