Windows 11 is getting braver (or bolder, depending on your point of view) with AI.

And File Explorer is the latest place where Microsoft is sprinkling its magic ✨

You may have already seen things like Ask Copilot or Semantic Indexing pop up around the system.

Now there’s something new in the mix: “AI actions” in the right-click menu.

These are basically shortcuts that let Windows hand your files to an AI-powered tool without you having to open the app yourself.

For example, if you right-click an image, you might see options to:

• Blur the background
• Erase unwanted objects
• Remove the background entirely
• Describe what’s in the photo
• Run a visual search

Behind the scenes, Windows simply sends the file to Photos, Paint, Edge, or a Microsoft 365 app. Whichever one does the job.

You choose the action, Windows does the organizing, and the AI does the clever stuff. It’s smooth.

And for documents, if you have Microsoft 365 installed, you can even get summaries, key insights or table conversions, all without opening Word or Excel.

Perfect when you’re in a rush and just want the gist of something fast.

But for anyone feeling like AI is creeping into every corner of Windows… you’re in control.

If these actions feel like too much, you can turn them off in Settings > Apps > Actions.

The “AI actions” menu will still appear, but it’ll be empty.

Whether you love AI or prefer to keep things simple, at least Windows gives you a choice. And honestly, that’s the balance we want: Powerful tools for the people who want them, and a clear off switch for the people who don’t 👍

🤔 Would you keep AI actions on for quick edits and summaries, or is this one feature you’d switch off straight away?
