The most important version of you as a leader isn't the one that shows up when everything is going well. It's the one your team experiences when deadlines are tight, conflict is high, and stress is mounting.

So ask yourself:

❓ What version of me shows up under pressure? Am I calm or chaotic? Curious or defensive? Clear or confusing?

❓ Would my team describe me the same way I describe myself? I may think I'm approachable, patient, and supportive. But what would they say after a tough week, a missed deadline, or a difficult conversation?

❓ What standard am I setting—intentionally or unintentionally? Because people don't just hear what leaders expect. They watch what leaders tolerate, reward, and model.

Stress has a funny way of exposing what we really believe. And your team is taking notes.

The good news? Your toughest moments don't have to define you. But they do provide valuable feedback.

So before asking, "Why is my team acting this way?"…

Try asking:

"What am I teaching them through the way I show up?"
