A couple pictures from the barn as I chased a group of kits being weaned around the barn. Took me an hour, which I think is a world record, to round all of them up 🤪🤣

Dahlia May’s Farm LG Chardonay finished up spring kidding tonight with three healthy triplets. Two does and a buckling! One of the does my son and I immediately said buck when it was born. She’s ginormous! Bigger than some of my month old kids 🤯. She eats like a buck though 🤣🤷‍♀️.

I’ve had a total of 24 kids born. Fewest I’ve had in several years and it’s honestly been a very nice break! I’ve spent the last couple months reducing my herd significantly. Still more planned.

I’ll be kidding in October for Fall kids. I’ve a buck in with my dry yearlings now. In an effort to regain some time and opportunity for personal care and family activities, this herd reduction was necessary! When you lose the oomph, best to rebalance. I’ve debated the last couple years and finally this last 12 months have been so stressful and overwhelming. A lot of health issues, getting told we can’t help you, this is your life now, and realizing that new physical state isn’t conducive to handling and managing standard sized goats. I needed to reduce the herd size to one I can mostly manage myself, with some help for things like hoof trimmings.

None of the reductions have been easy. Every single doe was a member of my show string, owns a piece of my heart, and I loved them dearly. Some will end up back in a show ring, others are making some families and kids very happy!
