May 5th has been designated as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Family (MMIWF). During this last weekend gathering, we took the opportunity to acknowledge the tragic reality of MMIWF. Bringing awareness to this movement is of the upmost importance to the Native Pathways Program.

On Saturday, we were honored to have guest speaker Chester Earl teach us about the Justice for Jackie movement and their impact on laws in WA state. Then, students worked on a Red Dress art project which was displayed in the s'gʷi gʷi ʔ altxʷ: House of Welcome garden. Later, after finishing our signs, NPP students marched through campus and made our voices heard. We held signs, sang and chanted to honor the many MMIWF worldwide. On Sunday, Chelsea Capoeman assisted our graduating seniors in creating their very own traditional cedar woven graduation caps. We enjoyed watching Lily Gladstone in "Fancy Dance" and ended our wonderful gathering with an inspiring circle dance!

Hands raised to those standing in solidarity with MMIWF.
