Sketches in acrylic. The recent show “Small Works Big Impact” was all 8 x 8 inch wood panels - and as much as I love a limitation, I couldn’t bring myself to begin with the final panel and go in hot. So I started with a favorite practice, working in a batch of four, applying single colors across the group and sussing out composition and values on the fly.

First slide was my favorite sketch; last one is the final piece. What think you?

Last in foursome of quickies, this one looking out from front yard on an especially epic view of the mountains (slide for reference - sometimes an actual scene is so impressive that it makes painting seem just silly).
