The Trump administration just finalized a decision that attempts to strip away vitally important habitat protections for endangered species.
For more than 40 years, the agencies implementing the Endangered Species Act have recognized that killing or injuring wildlife by destroying the places they depend on for food, shelter, and survival is a form of “harm” to listed species.
Today's action would roll back a regulation reflecting the agencies’ long-standing definition of “harm,” despite it being upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1995.
The Endangered Species Act has helped prevent the extinction of more than 99% of listed species, including the bald eagle, Florida manatee, and gray wolf.
America's wildlife deserves healthy habitats and strong protections. Sierra Club will continue fighting to defend the Endangered Species Act and the wildlife that depends on it.
🎉 We did it—together.
Thanks to supporters across the country, an unprecedented fast-track effort to overturn the management plan for Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument failed to advance in Congress.
This victory was only possible because people like you took action. Sierra Club volunteers, along with Tribal leaders, scientists, local businesses, conservation partners, and other public lands advocates, spoke up through thousands of emails, phone calls, meetings with lawmakers, letters to the editor, and community organizing.
💚 Thank you for helping defend one of America's most extraordinary landscapes.
🎥 Watch this special thank-you video from our Utah Chapter to celebrate what we accomplished together.
📖 Then read the full story in Jackie's blog, You Defended Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, to learn how grassroots action stopped this unprecedented attack on our public lands and why we must remain vigilant.
While this victory doesn't end the threats facing Grand Staircase-Escalante and our national monuments, it sends a powerful message: when our public lands are under attack, people across the country will stand together to protect them.
Thank you for being part of this movement. 💚 https://bit.ly/4vVZeXO

Last week, President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Doug Burgum traveled to North Dakota, claiming to honor the conservation legacy of President Theodore Roosevelt at the dedication of his presidential library. But in reality, they are dismantling what Roosevelt built. Our North Dakota Chapter and partners in the North Dakota Public Lands Coalition were there to call them out.
Roosevelt established roughly 230 million acres of public lands, including multiple national parks, 150 national forests, and the nation’s first national monuments and wildlife refuges. The Trump Administration is selling out millions of acres of our public lands to drilling, mining, logging, and other industrial development while gutting the very agencies that steward these lands and waters for the American people.
As the nation celebrates its 250th year, join us in urging our elected leaders to fight back to protect our natural legacy for the next 250 years and beyond. See 🔗 to take action. sc.org/publiclands250
