Daily Devotion - 6/3/26

Scripture -

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9

Devotion -

In God there is no darkness, only light. Jesus is the light shining on man, illuminating them and drawing us away from the darkness. 1 John 1 shows us that if we claim to have a relationship with Jesus and still walk away from the truth, we are liars. But if we abide in Christ, our relationship with Him overflows in fellowship with one another, and we are being purified from sin. If we claim we are without sin, we are not truly in a relationship with Jesus. This is why we are to confess, and He will make us new.

We gain knowledge and understanding through illumination of the word. We can choose to follow Christ and be sanctified over time. Confession is not sharing our secrets into the ether; it is much more interesting than that. How can we confess to things if we think we did the right thing? Jesus’ perfect life confronts us, and as we read about Him, we get to know His character and divinity. When we hear His words, we are confronted with the fact that our sin can or has driven us into darkness. Confession is the act that catalyzes setting things in their proper place, admitting we have done wrong to the Lord, and doing our best to make and do things right because He has made us right with God.

Prayer -

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive us for any sins we have committed. We are not perfect, but we know we are being sanctified through a relationship with Jesus. We ask that the Holy Spirit draw us nearer to You in our daily walk with Christ. Help us, lead us, and guide us in Jesus’ name, amen.
