The United States’ “zero tolerance policy” regarding immigrants at its southern border, calls for the prosecution of persons entering the country illegally, including those seeking asylum (American Immigration Lawyers Association, 22 June 2018). Legal and humanitarian experts point out that aspects of this policy are cruel and harmful to children’s wellbeing and violate the right to due process.
