I promised him, you will be even happier if we move back to my hometown. I KNOW you. He was SO MISERABLE during the process of preparing our old house for sale: the no more home cooking, living with staging furniture, neutral walls, living with the dogs in one room on an air mattress and basically creating what he called, "the worst year of my life." I made that happen: I created the worst year of my husband's life. But then...I found the most magical, mysterious, magnificent house with an extra helping of stars hanging over it at night, complete privacy, yet just 16 minutes from our little shop. Last night I made roast chicken with potatoes and green beans in our new oven -the first thing I've cooked in over six months, probably closer to eight. At his "surprise" 50th birthday party -which was really a surprise for all the guests because we got married just before arriving - about 100 of his closest friends came up to me and offered their congratulations. Then whispered, "if you hurt him, I will kill you." I explained, "I know who I am and who I married. He is Prince William and I am Kate Middleton and I am 100% with this." Even though I am genetically a blood king (17th grandson of King James II of Scotland), Christopher has all the power because, well, if you knew him you would understand. It's because he is perfect. But even though I did make his life horrible all year, I kept my promise: he is so much happier here.
I took this photo after dinner last night while he was reading a manuscript submission. "Look up for a second," and he did and this is what I saw and as soon as I saw his expression I knew: the man in this photo LOVES the photographer. And the photographer is just ❤️❤️❤️ for his subject

My husband, Christopher Schelling had been my literary agent for five years when he took this film selfie with a timer. He took all of the images that follow. He doesn't consider himself a photographer and just "grabs shots" never taking more than one of any subject, having no clue that this is William Eggleston's core belief. He has BOXES of photos and I think he needs a gallery showing.
