Most valuables aren’t sitting out in plain view.

As you record your home inventory, remember to document drawers, closets, cupboards, cabinets, storage bins, and shelves. Don’t skip the garage, attic, basement, or workshop areas either.

These spaces often contain tools, seasonal décor, collectibles, equipment, and other items that are expensive to replace.

VIDEO INVENTORY TIP #1: Narrate & Zoom

When creating your home video inventory, don’t just pan the room, narrate what you’re recording.

Mention high-value items, brand names, model numbers, and serial numbers whenever possible. Zoom in on electronics, artwork, jewelry, appliances, and furniture so details are easy to identify later.

The more specific your documentation, the easier it can be to support an insurance claim after a loss.
