Resolution POST

Words do not convey my sadness at the passing of my friend and mentor David Keighley. I met this legend of IMAX at my very first GSCA conference, and from the very beginning he was kind and patient with this "noobie." As the years progressed, I learned why you listen when he speaks. When I started doing my own DI on my films, he would screen them in the David Keighley IMAX theater (yes, they named the theater after him!) in Los Angeles, and watch my grades, dictating his notes into his iPhone, carefully balanced on the mixing board filming the scenes, so I could see what he was talking about. I could not believe the consistency of his eyes. When he said "make it 2 points brighter" it would then exactly match the levels of the previous scene on a histogram. Absolutely uncanny. I became convinced his eyes were the most calibrated in the industry and began calling him David "Laser eyes". There was a reason why David was involved in the post on all the Christopher Nolan films. Later, when Resolution Post started doing DI for other production companies, I always looked forward to David's iPhone review video where he would call out "three points" of this, and "two points" of that, and sometimes make a funny comment about a shot or scene. I laughed out loud many times at his honest take on a shot. (He was brutally honest!). Often, reviewing the color in the theater with Greg MacGillivray, he would get into a hysterical argument with Greg about a scene. David would always acquiesce "I agree with Greg if that's how he likes it." David was a class act, full of incredible stories, and so fun to talk with. I learned so much from him that it's hard to even convey. And he was always willing to teach. I will miss him enormously, and the loss to our whole industry is significant. Thank you David.

A big congratulations to our friend and mentor Rick Gordon, who won the Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) BIG SHOE award for 2023. This award is given to a member of the GSCA who has given such significant support to the organization that their shoes are too big to fill. (We are pretty sure Rick's feet aren't abnormally large!) Pictured: Tammy Barrett, Rick Gordon, Kelly Germain. Well deserved Rick!!
