Happy Halloween! I’ve been so happy to see all of the artwork from the Halloween Window Painting Contest around Newton this past week—including this super clever one When my friend Barbara Weiler Litwin and I started this event 22 years ago, we never imagined it would become a Newton tradition with some 400 kids participating every year. Thank you for all of the support over the years Newton Community Pride and Newton, MA Cultural Development And wishing you all a safe and spooky Halloween!

Don’t Trash it, Smash it! 🎃 Come to the Newton Pumpkin Smash on November 6.

Green your Halloween at Newton’s Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 6 from 1-4pm at the Newton City Hall War Memorial Circle (1000 Commonwealth Ave., Newton).

What will you do with your after ? You could put it in with your yard waste, but how much more fun would it be to smash it? This family friendly event will be focused on options to manage food waste in Newton. All smashed pumpkins will be composted by Black Earth Compost. By composting your pumpkin, you are reducing waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating a valuable amendment for our soils.

Don’t forget to bring your unwanted candy that will be donated to our troops. Also bring old Halloween costumes for our first ever costume swap hosted by the Newton Recycling Committee.

It’s going to be a smashing time!
