Coweta County Animal Services is again asking for help to save dogs from euthanization.
Overcrowding at the Coweta County Animal Shelter has put four healthy, adoptable animals at risk of euthanization, which is typically reserved for very sick or aggressive animals.
The euthanasia deadline is set for Tuesday, June 16, at 5 p.m.. The dogs still at risk are Storm, Breezy, Hagrid and Darwin.
The shelter is currently over capacity with 137 dogs, prompting staff to put out an emergency call for adoptions or fosters. To avoid euthanization, all 4 dogs on the list must be adopted or the general population must drop down to 121 before the June 16 deadline.
Adoptions are free for Coweta County employees, military veterans and seniors 65 or older. Heartworm-positive dogs are also free to adopt.
All other adoption fees at the Coweta County Animal Shelter are $25. That fee includes spay or neuter surgery, the first round of vaccines and an implanted microchip that helps identify the pet if it should ever be lost.
The Coweta County Animal Shelter is located at 91 Selt Road in Newnan. Adoption hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Animals up for adoption can be seen onwww.24petconnect.com and on The Newnan Times-Herald’s “Pet of the Week” page each Wednesday.
