Polyurethane Moisture Contamination 03/03/2021

By design, plural component formulations are reactive materials. When combined at their specified ratio, they provide desired characteristics to meet countless industrial applications. However, some chemistries have traits that could cause problems if not handled properly.

2K Polyurethane base components like Polyol and Isocyanate are hygroscopic. This means they CAN and WILL absorb moisture directly from their environment unless preventative measures are taken. Often formulators will add moisture scavengers to protect formulations. Watch this short video to see what could happen if moisture is not dealt with:

At EXACT Dispensing Systems we invest heavily in customer satisfaction and success. We begin with discussions with you about goals and processes and the material supplier about the application and specific material. Once a system has been designed and built, the Wet Test is where we evaluate the system solution by running the system with your material formulation, your parts, and following your process steps. It is the final step we take to guarantee your satisfaction before delivery. We encourage you to bring your production people to Maine to get hands-on training during the test. This ensures your people get experience working with your new system. The Wet Test is performed on every system we build and deliver, regardless of system size and complexity. We want you to be successful! https://exactdispensing.com/exact-videos/

Air Bubbles Got You Down? When adhesive products are mixed, there is a good chance that air entrapment can occur. Air entrapment leads to air bubbles, which can disrupt the performance of the materials being bonded. In order to fully encapsulate components without the formation of air bubbles, potting compounds must have a slow and steady flow and an ideal viscosity of 400 to 50,000 cps. But even if those rules are followed, air bubbles can still occur.

Dispensing under vacuum is one way to alleviate the risk of air bubble formation. The vacuum process also improves impregnation of your material in difficult-to-reach areas, ensuring void-free encapsulation. http://ow.ly/ek5S50DrztG
