Humans have the innate need to create a comfortable, safe, warm and happy home for our families and friends to thrive in. We pick items we love, colors that bring us joy, we light fireplaces and candles for a primitive sense of warmth, and we make food for health and celebration. Our space can reveal a lot about its occupants in so many ways. We pick up subtle clues in every environment we go into, be it a house, a hotel, a restaurant or even outside. We've all been in neglected, sad hotels or restaurants and just felt off in our experience being in it. We've spent time in wonderful, well-kept and well-loved places, and felt uplifted and comfortable. It's many tiny variables that contribute to the clues we pick up on, such as natural light, the colors around, items picked to display, candles, firelight, smells, and food presented can lend to our experiences in that space. In the homes of our friends and family, while those variables factor in, it's the relationship to the people that are dominant in our experience in that space. Happy Decorating!! DK.

I love beautiful vignettes! A simple arrangement meant to please the eyes and senses. An empty table top becomes a work of art with a vase of fresh flowers and a candle. A routine dinner become something more special, romantic maybe. It creates an atmosphere of intimacy and homeyness. That's why restaurants put a candle and a flower vase on the table. It makes the space yours while you are dining there. Maybe it harkens back to our caveman days when sitting around a fire meant safely, and of course, food on the table from a successful hunt. I love created vignettes around my home and change them up with the seasons. When I'm walking. around my house and turn a corner, my eyes rest on something beautiful and makes me feel good! Try it in your own home! Find things out in nature, around the house, or in the garden and put together something that pleases your eye and your soul.
